Overview

Restaurant Chop Foo Chow福州包点火鍋店, nestled at 2 Jalan Duku in the heart of Kampung Masjid Lama, Kluang, Johor, offers an authentic dim sum and steamboat dining experience that combines tradition with comfort. This eatery specializes in a variety of freshly steamed dim sum, featuring classic favorites such as Carrot Cake (萝卜糕), Yam Puff (香脆芋角), and unique local creations like the Otak-Otak Mini Burger (乌达迷你汉堡) and Pandan Roll Bun (斑兰卷). The kitchen’s focus on both fish and pork dishes, harmonized in their steamboat sets, provides a rich and balanced selection for diners seeking hearty flavors.

After recent renovations completed in mid-2025, the restaurant boasts a pleasantly air-conditioned interior that enhances the overall dining environment, making it a welcoming spot whether you visit for a quick dim sum brunch or a leisurely steamboat dinner. The space is clean and thoughtfully arranged, with particular praise from patrons for the hygienic washrooms and attentive service. This reflects a commitment to quality beyond just the food.

The steamboat experience here is distinctive—individual pots allow diners to sample diverse soup bases and customize their meal without compromise. This setup appeals to solo diners as well as groups who wish to explore different flavors. Vegetarians are also accommodated with specific vegetable-only options, although it’s important to note that the restaurant caters mainly to a Chinese palate and is a non-halal establishment.

Beyond the menu, the personal touch from the owner has been highlighted in customer feedback. Several guests have appreciated the guidance offered when ordering, which enriches the overall experience and ensures newcomers to Foo Chow cuisine feel comfortable and well-informed.

While some concerns about minor nuisances like flies have been mentioned, these do not overshadow the quality of the food and the warm atmosphere. For anyone in Kluang looking for a place where traditional dim sum meets the communal joy of steamboat dining, Restaurant Chop Foo Chow stands out as a destination deserving attention. Whether you’re seated for the freshly steamed dim sum or indulging in a flavorful steamboat set, this restaurant delivers a taste of regional heritage with thoughtful hospitality.

Best Dim Sum shop in Kluang. A variety of Dim Sum freshly steamed or you can buy frozen ones to take them home. At night you can have steam boat dinner here. Bought some takeaway and saw some renovation in this shop.

Was recommended to check this out. Walked past it last night saw that they were serving individual hot pot but 8am to 4pm they serve dim sum. Chatted with the staff was recommended to take the set ringgit 12 instead. Had asked if they allow switch item since I only can have limited space as solo diner. They kindly offered to sell me one piece. (Yu jiao). Century egg porridge is tasty prawn sticks also. Was honest with Edward that I have tasted better claws elsewhere. Heard they are having a second outlet just right behind splitting their operations. Serving full day dim sum and hot pot at its respectively outlet. Check it out when you are there. Many came to buy their frozen baos while I was there. Their toilet is so clean that I have greater faith in their food prep as well.
